OfflineWell everyone I've got a 1972 1210 Travelette 4x4 with a 304,manual trans and a short bed. I'm going to call it Mean green. MG is in pretty good shape for 40, she has some cancer in the floor but easily repairable. Unfortunatly the bed is pretty trashed and I don't think I can save it.I guess I'm going to build a custom flat bed.I also got a 74 2 door from a field that I will use as a donor. My plan is to swap out the front axle with power disc brakes along with the booster/master cyl and the power steering over to MG.
As far as the engine,I'm going to rebuid the 345 from the 74 and swap it inplace of the 304.I think I have a pretty good plan to start with but plans always change.
I will post pics when it stops snowing .Thanks for looking and stay tuned .

OfflineIs it the floor in the bed that is trashed, or the sides/fenders? If floor, some have pulled the metal and put in wood(looks good in my opinion). Sides can sometimes be patched with 18 gauge metal. If fenders are really bad, might find replacements on other vehicles, if just dented up, that metal is sturdy for body work, not like new "pop can" metal. Flat bed is a good option, but if you can do both then you will be able to have a multi-use truck!
By the way, keep the snow over your way, looks to be around 47 here today!

OfflineThe floor and the stake pockets are rusted out, and it looks like someone used the wheel wells for tie down points and bent both sides outwards pretty badly. Also their are lots of dings and dents, it was used as a truck for sure. The tailgate is also destroyed (ratchet strap holding it on). The rest of the body is in good shape. A few simple repairs and it will be a driver.

OfflineI decided to start with the easier side so I marked out all the pieces that needed replaced and made templates out of poster board. Then I carefully cut all the pieces out with a cutoff wheel . I strongly urge you to remove the fuel tank first . I did not . Luckily ,I didn't damage the fill hose or the tank. I now must remove the tank anyway to access the area I need to repair. now I can clean up the area and transfer my templates over to some 16ga sheet metal and start putting it back together.
