I was so proud of my 60 B-120 4×4 just a breezin' through the work thing, saying,…." atta boy, Dad, put me to work! luv it!" Man doesn't it look good, not even breakin' a sweat. Hauled up an 8% grade for an eighth of a mile in first (three-on-tree). no problem! gas pedal had room to spare.  full ton,..by the way.

Go ahead, let's hear some more stories like this.

The most I hauled was alittle over 3 tons of gravel in my 74 200 travelette.Went in for 2 tons, guy loading told me it wouldnt haul it,I said put it on.After he loaded it he told me he couldnt beleive it took 2 tons so he put more on to see if it would hit the helpers,3 tons did it.

That's amazing to have a three on the tree in  a heavy half 4x4.  Ought to be fun to  drive as your work horse.

Let's just say it is a mite unusual!  Yeah they made 23, or 2400 ,..or something like that over the three years, but how many were 3-on-tree? I think it would be hard to prove now, but I'd guess precious few.

So,..my mechanic in his typical youthful way figured I ought to slam that 4-speed into 'er and  the i'd have something. Well, to some, I would but, I like the rare things, and I opted for the orig. 3-on-tree.   Partly because I grew up using those, and i like the reminiscing. But,.. the rare beast it is wants to stay just like it was, and lookCool at it perform. I have one more ton to haul home, and perhaps,…if I'd tried, I could have taken both, but, the conservative side of me said, naw, better take one at a time, as the hill is 8%.

40 bags of pellets for the pellet stove, our only source of heat. ($700 US a year total fuel cost). cheap, huh?

That's one good looking truck Manny and after you get her painted…

I have a thing for short bed 4X4's. One guy I worked for had a 68 1200C 4X4,I got to drive it a few times to deliver parts with. After that i wanted it sooo bad,but he moved to Maine and it went too. Frown

So great to see an old workhorse at work. I dont blame you, the three on the tree is a rare item for that set up so it is nice to keep one around. I like the wheel set up you have, custom 6lug???  As for the cost of heat, I am hoping mine does a good job, this is my first year doing a pellet stove. I used firewood till this year, wifey said I was getting a little old for all the wood cutting work along with the other work I do, so I said get some thing else. She got a pellet stove, so…. Mike

I learned to drive in my Dad's truck with a three speed on the column. I can still hear him yell when I'd hit reverse going into second. But when I got the hang of it I loved shifting that truck. My buddies who were driving automatics thought I was "big time" cause I drove a three on the tree standard LOL.

If that were my truck I'd sure stick with the column shift…….for it's unique-ness and sentimental reasons.

I like to see these trucks back in action.Cool

Good idea taking one pallet at a time, not only did you lessen the wear and tear on her, you got to double your fun by driving her twice as much.Laughing

Radar Love! the alltime greatest road song for starting a truck trip, you and the buddy a cranking the tune and nodding the heads in time , tapping the knee, or the dashboard. The ambience a good road song brings.  actually "born to be wild," is a close second. Gotta be loud, though with good bass response to rattle them bolts!  My kids think I'm losing it when I act so teenagery as we go for a wild ride!

We're not much different, Al!  Fun loving 'older' kids.

"Truckin" by Bread??? Only one I know is by the Grateul Dead. Speaking of the Dead and even though the lyric is "Jumps like a willy's in 4 wheel drive" Suger Magnolia is a good driving tune.

Btw,Forgot to mention I like the wheels, they make it look strong! Need one for a spare though.

You're so right. I remember all those tunes well!

You guys don't really wanna feel my pain right now. I stepped backwards while unzipping the pallet to unload the pellets, and stepped into thin air. I fell flat on my back onto the tongue of my utility trailer (the one Mike and I used in Kaslo), and my tailbone hit dead center and Owwwwwwwyyyyy. I rolled over onto the concrete, and suddenly felt very old. I did not know if I broke a hip, or what. I didn't. as I lay there I prayed that God would take any horrible injury away before I even knew it was there. Either He did, or it didn't end up as bad as it could have. I'm walking, slowly, and wincing in pain, but OK. Tough old bird, I am, and yeah, 4 hours later, I'm still OK and i'll heal just fine, I think.  This would not have happend had I hooked the two chains onto the tailgate. hindsight is 20/20.

Since I am OK, i'll offer another tune memory. How about Beatles, "back in the USA"

Neil Young's  Long may you Run !

"With your chrome heart shining in the sun, long may you run"

Neil has always been and old car and truck guy and the song is a nice tribute to the old iron  we've all owned and loved.  I can't help but sing that tune when I'm behind the wheel of The Mighty Diamond.

Grateful Dead ? I saw more than my share of shows in the 70's all up and down the east coast as well as out west in my miss spent youth.

I was only 15 when i first went and watched them play at our local high school hall and i am a lot older now, but they still are one of the best, went to a concert last year and was in a crowd of 50K that just went off.
