OfflineLet me start by saying that my D-3 is running, and running pretty well. However, I have noticed when I start her up, and even after she is warmed up, I hear a sputter out of the exhaust pipe fairly regularly. I am suspecting the spark plugs. They, along with the wires look like they have been in the motor for upwards of the last 25 years. It has definitely been a looooong time since they were removed and replaced.
My question is, I imagine these babies are going to be an absolute nightmare to remove. I plan on first starting with a can of compressed air to blow the dirt away from the plugs first. I assume next I would get some PB or WD-40 and spray them good and let them sit prob 8-12 hours or a bit longer. And then ever so carefully remove them
So a couple of questions….
1. Does this sound like a good plan of action?
2. For a 1940 D-3, what size spark plug is used these days?
3. Really dumb question…but I am assuming the head on this is not aluminum. Is it iron?
Thanks for all the help!
