Thud

A documentary on Amazon TV about the F-105 "Thud" bomber and the jets pilots that flew them in the air war over Viet Nam. The pilots were brave and dedicated men who loved these planes, many gave all. Their stories and the film footage make the film well worth watching! The added bonus is IHC crew cab Travellett's in Air Force blue can be spotted in different scenes being used as ground support vehicles at the base in Thai Land. Uncle Sam new what trucks to use!

Re: Thud

The Republic F105 got the name THUD because of the sound it made when it crashed. The F105 is the only airplane ever removed from service, by the military, because of fatal crashes.
The performance of the F105 was remarkable at the time.

Re: Thud

One interesting aspect of the Thud according to the documentary was it's ability to have large chunks of it blown away by ground fire and and still remain airworthy much like the A10 Warthog. All the pilots interviewed expressed real love for the plane and those that had flown a number of others said said the 105 was their favorite. None of them mentioned wonky handling or flaws in the aircraft.
