Truck, a Love Story

Don't know if this got discussed on the old site- the book is several years old- but it's one of my favorites.

Its by Michael Perry and about 1/3 of it is about restoring his old L series. The rest is autobiographical about his life in small town and rural Wisconsin. Has anyone else read it?

For the full experience, you should read Population 485 first. Coop follows Truck and is OK but not as good as the other two. Visiting Tom is his latest, about his farmer/machinist neighbor and is excellent.
"How the heck did that happen?"

Mike is a great writer.
He sent me "Truck, a Love Story" several years ago. Read it a couple of times.
His newer books are just as good.

Re: Truck, a Love Story

It's a good book. I picked up a copy from the local Half Price Books store. I sent it to Suprjohn, after he finished with it, he was going to send it back to me. I had the idea to share it among the folks on this website. It was posted as available if you read it and passed it on. I think it made it to three or four people before it vanished. This was several years ago before the site started having all the problems with being hacked. It's out there somewhere, I wish whoever has it sees this and starts it circulating again. :yay:

Re: Truck, a Love Story

I was going to send you mine so I took a hike downstairs to see if my copy was still there.
No such luck. Must have given it to someone.
Remind me that the next house we move to doesn't have stairs. :bashhead:

I asked for, and received a copy for father's day.
I've really enjoyed the first chapter!

Well that's funny! Here I am reading through old posts and I came across this. That book is sitting on my book shelf. It was passed on to me some years back when I was a member and still had my L112 and went by the user name "Sleeve". When I finished reading it I posted to see who wanted it next and had no takers. So fast forward to 2018 and I am offering it again. Warning! The love story part may make you gag unless you are the sensitive type but it is well worth the read for the IHC content. You pay the postage.

Re: Truck, a Love Story

“A touching and very funny account. . . . Thoroughly engaging.”—New York Times
Hilarious and heartfelt, Truck: A Love Story is the tale of a man struggling to grow his own garden, fix his old pickup, and resurrect a love life permanently impaired by Neil Diamond. In the process, he sets his hair on fire, is attacked by wild turkeys, and proposes marriage to a woman in New Orleans. The result is a surprisingly tender testament to love.
“Part Bill Bryson, part Anne Lamott, with a skim of Larry the Cable Guy and Walt Whitman creeping around the edges.”—Lincoln Journal Star
“Perry takes each moment, peeling it, seasoning it with rich language, and then serving it to us piping hot and fresh.”—Chicago Tribune
Copy and paste.
