Wrong firing order, but running ok... sorta

So, some how it looks like my ignition wires are set in this firing order: 154326. Any and everything says it should be 153624. Oddly enough it starts, and runs decent. There is a slight cough every so often. Does that sound possible? That far out I wouldn't think it run at all. Hasn't been driven that way, though. Any thoughts before I get the chance to correct this?

Firing order should be on the block, I believe. Here is a good page to look at: https://oldihc.wordpress.com/2013/01/13 ... cations-2/ firing order is: 1-5-3-6-2-4 The cough is more than likely a spark off of fuel in exhaust cycle these motors are not real High compression motors, I have seen one run with 60 on 3 cyl and 10 on two cyl and 20 on the other cyl. When you could hand crank it to start a motor, not a lot of high compression. I am sure others will have more to say.

With two sparks being out of order, it is not possible for that engine to run okay.

Has anyone tried hand starting on of these? Is it like my farmall tractor... get the crank at 12 o'clock, choke/neutral/ignition and give it a good shove?

Your description of how you crank the engine is a guarantee of a broken wrist, if the engine kicks back. You should be starting the crank at 9 o'clock and pulling up on the crank.

And don't wrap your thumb around the crank.

It's a mystery to me, but it starts and idles smooth. Just the cough/hiccup every so often. Wish I could post or attach the video.

Definitely running better now, but still surprised at how well it started and ran at 154326. Now the water pump.
