194X K Pickup Identification

Looking for some clarification in the identification of the truck I just drug home. I am confident that it is a "K" series based on the grill and some other identifiers. I am lucky enough to have a legible serial on the engine (picture taken on the driver side in front of the generator), a mostly legible stamp on the frame (picture taken on the driver side in front of the spring hanger) and a somewhat legible data tag (tag taken from the driver side floor).

Engine - GRD214 26844

Frame - K2 6879

Data Tag - K2 214, K2 6879

The engine serial is quite clear (Green Diamond 214 CI) whereas the frame and data tag aren't nearly as legible. Per the frame and data tag, I expect that this is a 1941 K2:

My impression was that the engine serial SHOULD match the frame and/or data tag serial indicating that this engine may have been swapped in at some point HOWEVER it was swapped like-for-like with the original engine. Am I on the right track? Thanks for the help, build thread coming soon!

I like the truck you dragged home. Sadly, I do not fit in an IHC K model.

I'm 6 foot 6 so it will be a bit of a squeeze! The original bench seat has already been preemptively abandoned. If anyone wants the bare springs, let me know!

Engine numbers NEVER match the frame numbers. Check the tag carefully, you should see an engine number stamped in it, That alone will tell you if it is the original block or not.

Thanks for clarifying. Which tag should I be checking to verify the engine/chassis relation? The data tag on the driver side floor lists only the model (K2-214), wheelbase? (125), rating (illegible), chassis number (K2-6879), and various maximum weights based on the chassis, "body, cab, load and equipment", "total gross weight", "front axle (gross)" and "rear axle (gross)".

A clean data tag looks like this (this is an example, not my data tag) and I see no place for an engine serial number:

There was a second, smaller tag near the chassis data tag but it is mostly illegible:

Re: 194X K Pickup Identification

I guess they used a different ID plate on the smaller trucks, My K-7 has a different tag and the engine number is stamped in It list the engine family (BLD) followed by the displacement (269) followed by the engine serial number.

The Data Plates on early K May not have had engine listed,

but later ones did, my KB-1 plate is same as my KB-6 plate, has original motor listed

My '42 has the plate you have, with the engine serial.

Thanks for the clarification. Based on your comments, I shouldn't expect to match my engine to my chassis unless another data tag shows up.

Can you confirm that I identified the year of the chassis correctly (1941 K2) per my original post? Thanks!

Re: 194X K Pickup Identification

your truck was made sometime in 1941, start number for 1942 is 13907

IHC didn't date codes so to get closer you divide how many trucks made that year by 12 for guess on month, assuming same amount were built each month,
or by 52 to guess which week, assuming the same amount were built in a week all year, closest you will get,

according to data base, 10,810 trucks were built in 1941, divide by 12 is 900 per month, or 207 per week,

your serial number of 6789 means your truck was 3,787th truck built in 1941, average 900 per month puts your truck built last part of April 1941,

average 207 per week put your truck made 18th week of the year more or less, which would be mid to late April,
