Gas tank straps

Does anyone have any suggestions for replacement gas tank straps?? I have a 52' L-110 that came with the gas tank removed because of a few small holes in it. I was able to find a used stock replacement and would like to install it but the straps were cut. There are several universal straps out there, just trying to get help narrowing down the field.

Re: Gas tank straps

You say the straps were cut. You don't say the straps are missing. So, if you have the pieces, make new straps. You need two straps.
The tank straps are very simple. Coincidentally, yesterday, I was looking at one of the tank straps I had saved to copy. If you are in need of a picture and dimensions, I can take pictures and post the pictures later today. I will do this whether you need pictures or not. It is very likely another person may need this information.

Re: Gas tank straps

thanks for the reply. The straps were cut off at the bolt area where it attached to the tank/running board support. That's all there is, they were thrown out by the previous owner. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated

Re: Gas tank straps

Inexpensive ratchet straps will work just fine and may be a better choice. . I have not taken pictures to post, just yet.

I hope these pictures help. As you might be able to see, these are very simple to make.

Re: Gas tank straps

I'm going back to this gas tank strap task while I figure what to do with my swiss cheese oil pan. These pictures are very helpful Nikki, thanks.
At work, we often get steel deliveries by rail, one of the mills we buy from sends their stuff out banded together when they use a flat railcar. The steel bands are a perfect candidate for tank straps! They are high tensile straps, overkill for this application but who cares. They are 18 gauge, 2" wide so I need to trim them down a bit but otherwise it should be a relatively easy project to tackle. I'll be starting on this later today I hope.

Re: Gas tank straps

If you use a ratchet strap you will not need a cushion material between the tank and strap. Ratchet strap material can be a good choice between a steel strap and the tank.
:
To separate the tank from the struts, use two rubber buttons on each strut. The buttons can be cut from tire sidewalls
Don't over tighten the straps, the tank will start to collapse.

Re: Gas tank straps

That was my next question, what material to use between the tank and the supports/strapping, thanks.

Re: Gas tank straps

Since I still run some tube types, I use old tube material or flaps for such a application. thinner and more easy to cut then tires.

Re: Gas tank straps

I have access to both, old trailer ratchet straps and trailer tire tubes. I agree the tubes might be easier to work with. Thanks
