Re: WHAT DID YOU DO IN YOUR SHOP TODAY

When I stripped my frame and rear end I applied a rust inhibitor/converter then a primer and paint. The primer and paint was a Majic brand implement paint. I used a hardener in the final color coat paint. That was about 4 years ago. This past month I had to weld the leaf spring perches and the shock mounts on the rear end. I thought it would be easy to wire wheel the paint off the rear end with the angle grinder, I was wrong. That paint would not come off with the wire wheel attachment, I had to use the 80 grit sanding wheel on the angle grinder and I went through to sanding wheels. After welding on the perches and shock mounts I painted the rear end the same way again.

Kevin, that is the way we always prepped and painted frames back when I worked for a living, never had a problem doing it that way. I don't recall what the brand of paint we used was.

I made a custom spark wire puller. Silicone spark plug insulators seem to stick to the porcelain and removal is difficult. Removal of the insulator is made even more difficult in very tight space.
The stainless puller was first punched to fit around the sparkplug porcelain below the insulator. Pulling up removes the insulator.

Nice tool you've made Nikki. I know most of us have run into that problem once or twice.

Beats just yanking on the thing. And yes I just left myself open for a zinger.

Today I started the rebuild on my Carter fuel pump. A fun little project that I probably would have finished if I didn't get a late start. The internals were in decent shape but the replacement rubber parts in the kit I bought are viton and should hold up to modern fuel much better!

I really tried to stay in the shop, today. My wife baked some cinnamon buns and I was called in to test drive one or two of them. The coffee was fantastic also.

Re: WHAT DID YOU DO IN YOUR SHOP TODAY

I finished the fuel pump and installed it in the truck with new lines and a filter. It works like a champ and now I have a fuel pump that will hold up to ethanol gas without the rubber parts disintegrating. Now and Then Automotive provided the rebuild kit along with thorough instructions and even offered tech support although I didn't need it (it's pretty straight forward). I recommend them to anyone wanting to do this their self.
