Yes, that is what mine should look like. Didn't know it was copper. I might be able to use a copper plumbing end cap and paint it.

Ok I took my Horn button apart today to get some pictures. The button itself is screwed to the metal rod that runs down and thru the steering box. The button is a bakelite / plastic and is the nut part of the button. Under the button is a return spring then the big steering wheel nut. Don't take the 1 1/4 nut off till you get the button off. On mine I was able to raise the button and rod then hold the rod with vise grips and hand turn the knob (Normal tread). I have taken pictures of knob for those that need to make a new one. The rod goes through the bottom of the box , when you push down the button, rod move down and make a grounding point for the horn at the base. The rods vary in length as year and models differ. Hopes this helps.

Re: 1926 Horn Button

For my 2 cents , the button is always a problem. My 29's that I've been working on for a while[YEARS] and haven't hit the road yet;are the bakelite type as from the remnants I have and similar to other posted pictures. Its a one pices assy. held in the shaft by the set screw/screw just below the dome head of button or top of shaft;just a quick note ,that exposed bushing or what ever, is part of a long shaft that goes all the way to steering box..if any more info needed let me know . plan B I'll be trying to use a new style car horn button/doorbell sw and glue a dome head on it .

Re: 1926 Horn Button

Buy me a piece of bar stock of your material of choice (except stainless, work hardens and is a pain). Send me measurements or something to copy and I'll make you one. Pay shipping and leave me the extra bar stock and we will call it good. Promised within 10 working days after I get everything in my grubby hands. I can also powder coat it any color you send. Nothing extra. I keep the left over color.
