Kb split rims, solid rings.

Does the kb3, have a solid ring on the split rim, or is the ring supposed to have a break in the ring, I just got some split rim wheels but there is only a solid ring on them, my other rims have a split in the ring, does anybody know about these wheels. Thanks.

Re: Kb split rims, solid rings.

The Solid ring/split rim is a Goodyear design that was use in the 20" size on the K series 5 and up. It is only used on demountable rims (spoke wheels) for that reason I don't think it was used on the -3. I've never seen a -3 with spoke wheels, and 20" rims were rare but an option. The one I've seen was a Budd (disk wheel) type.

Thanks combinder 89'the wheels on my kb3 are 16" 6 stud split rims, it's a duelly, I picked up 4 wheels 16"6 stud i thought great, and I found out they are of a dodge, solid ring no split, and so I won't be using them. I have to find some ihc wheels as mine are too rusty after sitting for 40 years, I'll just keep looking

Re: Kb split rims, solid rings.

Are you sure they aren't 3 piece rims? They would have a solid side ring with a lock ring to hold the side ring on. The lock ring might be square and will be split.
I guess I'd need a picture to ID for sure.
If the bolt pattern and backset are similar they should work, unless you are looking for what came on it from the factory.

As clean and complete as that truck was, it was a shame to break it up for just the clip. Interesting belt drive hyd's never seen one done that way, trans mounted PTO are the way to go, don't know how much power you could pull off the fan belt?

Re: Kb split rims, solid rings.

I am working on a 1941 K4. It has the spoke type wheels and the 20" rims. I am looking for the 20" rims that are only about 5 inches wide. I have ended up with a set of 20x5 wide rims and a set of 20x7s. The tires I am mounting are 20x6.5 which fit very nicely on the 5" rims. I am afraid that they will be a little spread out when put on the 7" rims. Anybody out there like to trade some 5s for 7s? Or has anyone put the 6.5 tires on 7" rims? I am afraid it will look a little strange. These rims that I am talking about are for the dual rear axle. If the 7s mount I will probably put them on the inside (hide them) and put the standard 5" on the outside.

K4 needs new tires and two 20x5 split rims.

Can't put them on the inside, they'll hit the frame/springs. 7" rims will take a 9.00x 20 tire, way too wide for a 6.50x 20.
Narrow 20" rims are getting hard to find.

I may be stuck if the 6.5s won't mount up on the 7" rims. I may be on the watch for 5" rims.
