Have you ever seen a school bus?
I have read about them and see a few in some marketing material, but never seen one in person.
Until..... I was driving cross country from Texas to Oregon during the winter of 2017. I chose to take the 'high' road to save me about 5 hours drive time.
Since I was by myself without the co-pilot I was doing this on the cheap, driving and sleeping in the mobile motel called U-Haul. Anyway, one morning as I was travelling through New Mexico I passed by what I thought might have the shape of an International. It was a quick flash, as I was out in the middle of no-where and not expecting or looking for anything in particular. Plus I remember not being 100% yet as I had not been able to obtain a morning coffee yet.
Being the curious sort, I stopped and walked back down the road. There was no way I would even attempt to turn around, and I thought it would be better to walk than to back up a U-Haul and car trailer 1/4 mile or so down the shoulder.
I went to the property and the owner had a proper 4 legged furry property alarm barking away. Which caused the owner to come out and see 'what the heck is going on'. Which is a good thing for me as this was all being a gate, and growing up in Texas I was taught not to open a gate and enter a property unless you knew the fella because some people prefer to be left alone and might have an itchy trigger finger.
The owner and I spoke for about 15 minutes. He told me that many people have offered to buy the School Bus from him, but he did not want to sell it. To be honest, even though I thought it was very cool I did not want to buy it because I have enough projects as it is. But is has full filled a bucket list item of sorts as that I always wanted to see one in person.
I don't know if the owner ever looks at this site, maybe he does. If so I want to thank him for taking the time to talk to me and show me the bus.
I hope you guys enjoy the pictures. I did look inside, and he had stuff stored in it. So out of respect I did not take any inside pictures. Maybe I should have asked....
