L110 new to the family

Hello,

My wife and I recently inherited a 1951 L110 pick up in completely original condition. It sat in a barn most of its career and her Dad loved it. I got it running before he left for a better place. Now that it my wife's, I was wondering if it should be converted to 12 volt negative ground because it has always been very difficult to start and her father said they used to use a 12 volt starting assist kit when it was being used on the farm.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to our little corner, As to 6 or 12 volt, its up to you. If you do change, use a 12 to 6 solid state convertor to the gauges to protect them. They are avaiable off E-bay and other places.
Most cranking trouble can be traced to the grounding. IHC runs the ground to the frame then uses a braided strap between the frame and engine. All the cranking current has to pass thru it and after a while it doesn't do a good job.
Run a heavy (00 gauge or heavier) from the ground side of the battery to one of the starter mounting bolts, and it will work better.
MY K's crank just fine to 0 or colder on 6 volts.

Thank you Sir,
I will certainly try that first, we would like to keep as original as possible.

Much appreciated,

I am looking to get a copy of a 1952 L110 owners manual. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thank you,
Gerald

Don't place too much importance on the owner's manual. There is very little, if any mechanical advice in the manual. I have an original R manual. I will have another look at it later today. I don't want to sell the manual unless someone offers a ridiculous amount for it. I think I might have an original sales brochure somewhere. This stuff can be found at car swap meets and eBay. :t3901;
