2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

As we travel, it is nice to comment about where we are going and/or where we have been and all the IHC trucks that we have seen on our journeys.

2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

The Turkey Rod Run is a four day event at the Daytona International Speedway that draws people from all over the southeastern states and beyond. Personally I prefer spending Thanksgiving with family and friends in an homey, casual environment, not by bumping elbows with thousands of strangers at a very large swap meet/car show/car coral. To each his own. Therefore, I only go for a Friday or Saturday. Friday, this year, had weather challenges so I went on Saturday. Below is one day’s snapshot of the relevant IHC in attendance. Granted there were 4,333 registered vehicles in attendance, so I might have missed some. As far as I know, mine was the only model L there. As you can see there were some KBs, Metro, and model S. With so many vehicles, there are likely going to be some odder than others I’ve included a couple of them too. And there’s even an example for the “hit and miss” guys.

Tried to get this pic rotated, but you’ll just have to rotate your eyes if it comes up vertically on your computer. Notice it is a Canadian native, but there were dozens of other kinds.

Thanks for sharing the pics! That Learjet camper has to one of the stranger things I've seen! Was it over 8 1/2' wide?

I think the correct model designation for the 'D190' is a V190, though I doubt it's on a 190 chassis now.

Powerstrokes were the only V8 diesels that mounted the turbo at an angle, weren't they?

Re: 2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

The Lear Jet camper was parked in such a way I couldn’t get directly behind it to judge its width nor did I have my tape measure with me. In fact I didn’t linger long enough to inquire anything about it. Daytona Speedway infield is such a large area and to cover it all requires one to keep moving.
As for the 190, it could very well be a V model. Zooming into the original pic reveals there is no letter designation on the cowel badge. I’m getting old and where I got the idea it was a D is anybody’s guess. I’m not a deisel expert and I took the photo so those who are experts could relish in the knowledge they recognized what kind it is. Cheers!

What - no one noticed those l o n g shades on the KB2’s headlights?

Re: 2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

yea, they are a bit long. not to my tastes.

when I bought my jimglo car trailer, they told me the max width allowed on US roads is 7 1/2 feet. I have not verified that though. if it is true and that lear jet camper is wider than that, how can they get it registered?

Re: 2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

I'm not sure what the max width for trailers might be but most of the car hauler trailers and especially the lo-pro bass boat trailers that people around here have are well over 8 ft. wide.

Bill, Is that all of the IH's at the show? I would have thought there would have been many more, especially one more or didn't you take yours? Looks like it was a great show. I'm surprised Jeff hasn't posted a few on another forum. I'm sure he was there.

102" is what our trailers are. If the DOT want to make a stink, they will measure any chain or straps or binders that might stick out past the sides.

Re: 2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

okay, I just did a bit of research. 102 inches is the dot max width. that is what I get for buying into hearsay. so Lloyd you are a smart guy, and Dan too.

Re: 2017, 44th Turkey Rod Run

If a person wants to do a lot of hauling of vehicles, he really needs a flat deck(wheels under) for it. I have a home built trailer that I want to widen out and make drive over fenders. I could barely fit my old 97 ford with standard tires and wheels through the fenders, newer trucks will not fit. Just my thoughts.
