1966 L.S.1700 parts

Hi.Newbie here.
I am starting the week looking for a couple of part numbers.
I am looking for.
Brand-"Standard" Line-"Blue Streak"
Ignition points
Ignition condenser
Ignition rotor
I'm guessing that I have a 345 ci motor.I visually can't seem to find motor number on the block by the fuel pump.
Other brand part numbers would be welcome too.
Information about a 30 plus year old walk in parts store near Springfield or Kansas City,Mo.would be of great help too.
Thank you.
Kurt.

Re: 1966 L.S.1700 parts

Kurt,
The 266-304-345-392 engines are the SV series (for small V8). I'm not sure about 1966, but over the years these engines came with both Holley and Prestolite distributors. You'll need to know which it is to get the right parts. I am not knowledgeable enough to tell you which from a picture, but someone here probably could.

Re: 1966 L.S.1700 parts

You need to know which distributor you have.
The distributor swaps between different engine sizes (266-304-345-392) and all years of these engines, so who knows what is on there now after 50 years?

Possibilities:
Delco w/points
Holley w/straight points
Holley w/curved points
Holley electronic ignition, aka Gold Box
Prestolite w/points
Prestolite w/electronic ignition
Mallory w/dual points (aftermarket)
Davis DUI (aftermarket)
.....and being a Medium Duty truck, the distributor may or may not have a governor on it.

Photos of your distributor with the cap on, cap off, the cap exterior with a few cables off the cap. rotor, inside the distributor with the dust cover (if equipped) off and rotor off.....would help us identify it for you.

PHOTOS PLEASE !!!

Engine ID is under the #2 exhaust port on the right side of the engine block.

Re: 1966 L.S.1700 parts

I used to be a mechanic a long time ago.
I only saw light duty IH's
I am at the point with this truck that I know it has a intermittent primary ignition problem that is keeping it from starting. When I purchased the truck a few years ago it started and ran rough. With no working hydraulics I set this project aside. Before I did,I removed the distributor cap and right away had the hunch that someone that did not know what they were doing had been there.
I do not have any kind of a shop or garage.I am working on this on the side of hill of rocks with poor light and poor vision. Not complaining. It is just not a good environment. My driveway washed out real bad this spring and Ill be needing this trucks intended build to traverse my property.
I have tried to ID the motor.TY for telling me how to.I just have not seen the number yet.
It is a governed motor.
The ignition point contact arm is curved.
I will post a photo as soon as I downsize one.TY for telling me how to do that.
I'm sure that you can ID this truck fast.
Thank you.

Re: 1966 L.S.1700 parts

That is a Holley distributor with governor.

I am not sure if it has "straight points" or "curved points" due to the angle of the photo.

NAPA sells tune up parts. You could take the old parts in to them and get new parts based on this info & the old parts, or find a store that sells the Standard Blue Streak and check their p/n interchange. Or check the internet for a vendor near you or order over the internet from a Standard Blue Streak supplier.

Cap is a NAPA p/n FA98 (used by many Ford V-8 engines of the 60's & 70's)

Rotor is a NAPA p/n FA8000 (used by many Ford V-8 engines of the 60's & 70's)

Condenser is a NAPA p/n FA66

Points need a better photo to determine type: curved or straight.
Possible NAPA p/n's for points: CS749, CS753, CS757P.

Also, it doesn't really matter which size SV-8 engine that you have (266-304-345-392) as they all use the same mfr's distributors (as noted in above post) and the same tune up parts for each mfr distributor. As long as you know the distributor, you can get the tune up parts for that distributor. Engine size doesn't matter.

Good Luck and let is now how it turns out.

Re: 1966 L.S.1700 parts

I can't thank you enough for this information!
The parts counter person said that there is a 80% chance that the parts are in his stock. He just needed to ID the disributor. You did that and came up with part numbers.Wow!
I am grateful to all that put in effort on this site.I did not expect to find this great source for old I.H. online.
I also leaned how to downsize 2 photos for the first time.Yippee.
I'm moving forward.
I'll post a update next week on progress.
Thanks again.
Kurt.
