Kb rear end

http://s209.beta.photobucket.com/user/o ... sort=3&o=1
Here is my KB. I am thinking that the ford explorer rear end is my best option. I'm interested in info on hooking up the disc brakes though and if any other modification is involved?
Thanks,
Marty

Re: Kb rear end

I believe with disc brakes you will need to add a proporting valve and a dual reservoir master cylinder.

Re: Kb rear end

I've also read you will need a 2 pound residual pressure valve if you plan to keep the master cylinder tucked under the floor. Please post your results since I have not completed this in my K1.

Re: Kb rear end

if you can find and older scout rear axel, with drum brakes you can try the stock master, but mite be better off with the same year scout master.thats what i have in my KB.stock scout rear is a good fit on KB's.Keep it all IH! scout rears after 75 where all Dana 44's. Good strong axels.saw youre photobucket page. check out mine at http://photobucket.com/ace1942

Re: Kb rear end

This will be an interesting post to follow. I agree that the master cylinder will need to be upgraded, as a drum brake master cylinder cannot provide enough volume of fluid to operate the disc brake calipers without excessive pedal travel. You would also get the safety upgrade of a split braking system
This would be the ideal time to install front discs as well, using the master cylinder, power booster and proportioning valve from the Explorer. Without providing some form of power assist, pedal pressure required will be higher than with the original system, as disc brakes require higher pressure along with the higher volume of fluid.

Re: Kb rear end

I'm using the scout axels both front and rear. They came from a 77 Travller and I got a stock master for the same year scout. The front has discs but the master has the same size resevore both front and rear.Do I need a portion valve? not shure if the scout had one? pictures on photbucket.http://photobucket.com/ace1942
