VWJake - my extension included the tailgate section, there is an image of it in my gallery (sitting on the garage floor) and on the truck in another image. The extension for the tailgate extended down farther than and set inside the top four inches or so of the tailgate. It hung from bolts at the top of the extension and pivoted out from the top corners. So if you opened the gate normally with a load, the extension would pivot up toward your face. I remember you have that dual purpose tailgate, I'll bet that is a rarity, I had not seen any before yours. I would assume if you opened yours from the bottom, the gate's extension would have no safety issue at all.
