L 130 gearing

I have a '50 L 130 with the original rear end, I'm looking to change rear end gearing into the 3/50-ish range. Is anyone aware of a manufacturer that I can source the ring and pinion gears from?

Thanks, Jeff

Not unless you know someone who will custom hob a gear set.

Re: L 130 gearing

Your options with that axle were 4.3 to 1; 4.88 to 1; 5.571 to 1; or 6.166 to 1.
You could spend about $3500 for a Gear Vendors overdrive. OR, replace he axle with a modern DANA 60 for a couple hundred dollars.
Another option is to change out both axles for a DANA 60 set from a FORD F350 and have a four wheel drive. This is a simple straight axle swap. You will have to buy new spring "U" bolts.1997 is the best year F350 for this swap.
Until then, stay in the right slow lane and install a slow moving vehicle triangle. A straw hat and a corncob pipe completes the look.

Re: L 130 gearing

I agree DANA 60 you can get normally in a truck with the same carrier, 4.10---3.73---3.55. Wheel adapter maybe. Hard to find a 60 with your bolt patter. Mid 1960s IH had the same bolt pattern.
A Dana 61 offers 3.31 and 3.07, another hard to find.

I do not know why any person would limit themselves with that old 6 bolt pattern. The curse of that old bolt pattern has the multi piece wheels and all of the situations that go with that feature.
I left my want list with Wasney Ford Recyclers for a pair of Dana 60 axles. The rear was in stock and the front became available in a few weeks.
Another good source of these and many other parts is the Auto wrecker's network. Google for it. I found a set of Dana 44 Jeep axles at Olympic 4X4 in Snohomish, WA.

Thank you for the replies and info. A Dana 60 will be what I will hunt for. Jeff
