Re: international L 162

Give us a little more background info-----
Has it been sitting for a long time in a place that dirt & water could have built up in the lower area of the brake shoes ?
Assuming you've already moved it a little bit (to get it home, yes? ), did the tire turn then, or did it skid along the ground ?
Are you certain the tire itself is not rubbing against anything that might keep it from turning ?

Any additional clues can help.

It was sitting in a place that got dust and what not maybe moisture but no direct water. When we pulled it the tire just skidded. It is not rubbing anywhere that we can see.

One front wheel on my C40 was locked up when I got it. All I had to do was loosen the brake adjustment and then the brake shoe popped loose and the wheel spun without any problem. It had a small amount of surface rust sticking the shoe to the drum. Nothing major, but it was enough to keep the wheel locked up tight.

Is the adjustment right behind the wheel on the back of the drum or do you need to pull the wheel to get to it?

I can't say exactly what you have on your truck, but for most drum brakes there is an adjustment slot on the backing plate behind the drum. You should be able to tighten or loosen the brakes without removing the wheel and drum. The slot might be covered with dirt so there is a chance you might have to dig around a bit, but it shouldn't be hard to find. Good luck!

Re: international L 162

That slot for the adjustment should be at the very bottom of the backing plate. If you're not familiar with how that works, here's a suggestion:
Jack up the other side and remove the wheel, then the brake drum, and scope it all out. that'll give you the understanding you need to "back off " the brake
shoe adjustment on the side that won't turn.
Hope that helps............. :-)

The slot may have a rubber plug in it. Once you figure out how it works the best tool for adjusting it is a flat tip screw driver.
