The Return of Phantom

After yet another unexplained absence from OldIHC, I’m baaaaack. :-)

It’s good to see that Old IHC is still a bastion of accurate information about old IH iron, unlike Facebook where Ken’s uncle’s friend’s second cousin once owned an R-100 that came from the factory with a V266, and other misinformation.

There’s actually a chance that I might get to work on Phantom in the not too distant future. After selling my mother’s place where it was stored, we moved it down to my place. I had to sell my Studebaker to make room, but I’m not giving up ole Phantom!

Welcome Back! These are not a "hurry up" type of vehicle. Glad you will be able to work on Phantom again. Look forward to see you on more often.

It looks like you're on your way. These are noble trucks and deserve to be kept on the road. Judging by the headlights attached to the frame you possibly have been moving it around under its own power with the front end clip off? I'm just curious if that can be done without the fan contacting the radiator.

No, those fog lights just weren’t taken off when the sheet metal was... Oh about 15 years ago. The radiator is pretty firmly attached, so wouldn’t think interference would be a problem at the speed this old beast travels.

And if you have the time and the inclination maybe you can share a little bit about your Porsche Speedster Replica in the non IH discussion thread, those kit cars interest me!

Re: The Return of Phantom

Sure thing. I’ll post up some info on the speedster over there.

Given that the last time I worked on Phantom was about 15 years ago, I’m not going out on a limb and promising any timeline for the resto. ;-P when I do, I’ll post up here.

Part of my challenge may be finding and inventorying all the parts I’ve squirreled away over the years. Kent Robinson (a great guy for those that remember him) always said he had NOS everything that I could need for the resto. Alas, I never got started before he passed away and his estate auctioned off and otherwise dispersed. He also promised me first dibs on his Golden Jubilee, but that also disappeared after he passed.
