50 l110 master cylinder

So I ordered a new master cylinder with plunger for my L110 (part # mc1722). The plunger rod was not included, can I clean up the old rusty one and reuse it or
should I try to find a new one, and is it available separately ? A quick search on net failed to produce.

I picked up the M/C from CCP---classic performance products-- the part number is M-C118-L.
Has ports on both sides, this one has 1-1/8" bore, they have other sizes and make sure you get the correct port size for the lines to thread in. You may want to get some 90 degree fittings, its tight, I have a good tube bender.
Also, you have to move the M/C push rod on the other side of the brake pedal armto get clearance, Used the original bracket for the M/C and slid it dowm the frame 4 or 5 inches to keep the shaft level. I did not use the brass insert that goes in the rear sleeve or the M/C.
They have drum to drum and dics to drum.

Re: 50 l110 master cylinder

It should take quite a lot of rust beyond surface rust to make the push-rod not serviceable. Surface rust is no big deal. Can you get the part glass beaded and zinc chromate plated locally?
Don't panic.
I made a modified pushrod for our L110 Shorty. This is for a Bendix Hydroboost conversion for disc brakes and 4X4.
Here are a few pictures to show what a person can do if they are determined and "off their rocker". :moon1:

Re: 50 l110 master cylinder

Did the L110 have a brake booster?? I was under the impression the '50 used a tossed big flat rock and a rope tied to the rear bumper for stopping. Maybe that was the Fat Fender Fords??

I am talking about the 1/4" diameter 3" rod that pushes up inside the master.

Re: 50 l110 master cylinder

I got that. If the "rod" has a little surface rust, clean it up, paint it or get it plated. Heavy pitting may put the rod out of service.
Abd, I doubt the "rod" is .250" . I will accept .375"
You should be able to make something suitable.

I removed the rod, it is 5/16 dia, so my guess was as good as yours Nikkinutshop. I cleaned it up on the wire wheel and it looks great. Will paint it maybe plate it before installing.

The push rod is not something typically replaced when you change the master cylinder, unless it is bent or otherwise damaged.
