Can't seem to keep her running. I'm going to go through the carb and want to eliminate that inoperable governor for now. Anyone ever install shorter manifold studs? I am guessing I'll be up for a big fight.....

Before you do that, make sure the throttle linkage will clear with the carb mounted closer to the manifold. If not then a spacer would be in order, wouldn't have to be as tall as with the gov, but enough to clear.
You could check with "speed shops" for a heat isolator, for under the carb, 1/4" or thicker should do the trick.

Cool thanks. She was running ok with the choke closed then die when you opened the choke. Now she won't stay running at all and I've changed nothing.

So I still don't have her up and running. Wiring my shop took priority. I have however found a whole new body (cab and nose) That will greatly reduce the repair involved and since I've had several of these unbolting and replacng sheet metal is a breeze. I'm going to Kansas soon to pick up the new body see my post in transportation network if you need anything hauled in between
