A Duh! Moment

Ever since I bought the truck last month I have been using a piece of rain gutter down spout that was in the bed of the truck to hold the hood open while I work on it as that's what the previous owner used. I had looked around to see if there were rods like my L truck had to hold up the hood but didn't find any so I thought I'll have to make some when I have time. Today while I was working on it I just happened to glance down by the radiator and saw a flat piece of steel. A closer look showed that it had a pivot pin on one end and and a point on the other and was clipped in place. A glance up at the front bottom of the hood revealed two small slots and that's when the very dim bulb went on above my head. I felt so stupid that I had not found that before that I had to laugh out loud. It looks like I can retire the piece of downspout now!

I'm thinking that you should not have said anything.
I would rather have tools I do not need than to need tools I do not have

Any man who claims he's never done something embarrassing bordering on the stupid is either a liar or perfect...and so far, nobody's proven to be perfect.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

to be fair, that factory rod barely lifts the hood enough to get under it, I always augmented it with broom handle

On my R 112, I very early on decided the hood wasn't open wide enuf when the prop rod was holding it up, so I lengthened them both by about a foot.
It makes all the difference, any time I need to do anything on the engine.
