My 220 dies when warm and under load

Howdy gang,

Just when you get a couple things fixed, something else quits. Lately while driving my L110 it starts to die while driving after a few minutes. Seems to only happen when warmed up some, and only dies under load. Fuel line seems to be some distance from the exhaust so I don’t think it would be vapor lock. I rebuilt the carb last year and installed a new fuel pump. After it sits, it will fire right back up and run fine. Was condidering installing an in-line fuel filter that is clear in the rubber line to the pump so I can see if there is junk in the line. I had a radiator shop clean out the tank. Sure seems like it is fuel starved but perhaps it’s an electrical issue I’m overlooking like the condenser?

Thanks for any ideas!

Sounds like it could be the coil. Next time it dies, check the spark.

If you haven't changed the condenser, do it. Consider it preventive maintenance. But usually when condensers die, they don't "resurrect" themselves; they're just like Rover, dead all over.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

I'm going to second checking the coil.

Will replace the coil and condenser tomorrow.

I sure appreciate the help!

Re: My 220 dies when warm and under load

Often, a 6 volt coil, operated on 12 volts, with or without a ballast resistor will fail in the manor you describe. A ballast resistor doesn't make a 6 volt coil a 12 volt one! So whatever replacement should match the trucks operating voltage and if required, used with the correct ballast resistor.
1st question is the one others asked, does it loose spark when it dies or does it loose fuel?

I had a bad problem with vapor lock around Memorial Day when really hot outside. I understand that the new fuels boil at a lower temperature that does not effect newer cars with fuel injection as they run at a higher fuel pressure.I installed an electric fuel pump that should keep the fuel running when it is hot outside.

I’ve kept it all 6 volt, hoping this fixes it. Hate to start chasing other problems. New fuel pump didn’t help. Will keep y’all posted!
