hinge mounted mirror

Can someone supply a picture of the hinge mounted mirror where the shaft of the mirror attaches to the hinge bracket on the door? I had a mirror under the seat in my truck, and one hinge bracket on the truck, but not sure how they connected to each other....

Thanks,

Re: hinge mounted mirror

I have a few of these mirror brackets. I will take a picture right now since I am in the shop storage area. I will post a picture later this afternoon. I hope this works for you.

Re: hinge mounted mirror

This is what I found in my Old IHC storage cabinet. The bracket is simple enough. A person with some skills could easily make a reasonable copy of the two pieces,
My son says we have more than a few of these mirror brackets. I can not say, at this point, how many of these brackets we will need, so for now nothing is for sale.I may not even use the OEM IHC parts. I like brushed stainless.

Re: hinge mounted mirror

Thanks for the replies, I have made the brackets that mount to the top hinge, I just didn't know how the mirror shaft mounted to the brackets....Looks like a bolt thru the shaft, any spacers?

thanks again,
T

Re: hinge mounted mirror

There were always spacers. They are easy to make. A spacer can be a short bar that holds a convex mirror.

Re: hinge mounted mirror

Nick, I understand the pole flattened on the mirror end with the mirror bolted thru the flattened end, and I have made copies of the upper hinge mirror mount, my question is how was the pole attached to the bracket installed on the upper hinge? That part was missing when I got my truck. It’s hard to make out in the pictures that were posted, I’m just trying to stay as close to the original as I can.
Thanks for all of the help, it is greatly appreciated!

Re: hinge mounted mirror

For lots of picture examples check out the TRUCKLITE Web site, I often see a tube in a tube fitted at the base of the mirror stem. It appears that the double tube is flattened together. Simple flattering in a Vise or press is not adequate and is not as strong as the die pressed design from Trucklite or other commercial mirror arms. I made a press die for this purpose and it worked okay. You will need a lathe and milling machine to make the die. I must have lost or tossed the die because it is not with the other press tools.

Re: hinge mounted mirror

One more thought on this mirror mount thingee. One of the IHC pickups I bought had an interesting mirror stem clamp at the bottom. The clamp looked like a "half-nut" from a lathe. It was split into two pieces and the clamp hole went through the "half-nut" and the mirror stem. This gives a number of material choices to a builder. I may have this clamp thing and if I can find it,...… picture to follow.

Re: hinge mounted mirror

Thanks Nick, after doing some research on the truck light website I found an adjustable mirror Pole that looks like exactly what I need. Was able to order through Napa auto parts will have it tomorrow and check it out and see if it works thanks again
