240 BD Industrial Tilt Valve

In the course of acquiring a rebuilt BD 240 I learned that it apparently is an industrial engine and a tilt valve engine. After installation, we realized the oil pan was differently configured and way too close to the axle. Swapped the pan and pump out but am getting no oil pressure. Am wondering if there are other big differences causing the oil pressure problem and am looking for advice on best practices for a first start. Thanks for any assistance.- Stickman 207

Did you change the oil filter adaptor? IHC inlines put the oil relief in the filter adaptor, wonder if there was a difference if it was changed.

We did not change the oil filter adaptor- the engine I acquired did not have one so we put the one off the 1956 engine on it.- Stickman 207

Re: 240 BD Industrial Tilt Valve

Ahh, that may be the problem. The '56 may be a bypass filter adaptor and the engine is later and set-up for a full flow. Different porting in the block and the result is you are dumping the oil right back to the pan.
Pull the adaptor off and dope out the porting an flow to confirm what I think is happening. Otherwise look for a late model (BG) filter adaptor.
Since the relief is in the adaptor you can't just port a remote filter without fitting some kind of system relief for the system.
Edit:
In otherwords, the filter adaptor must match the model (SD BG etc) of engine not the chassie.

Is a filter adapter the same as a oil filter base? I am having a hard time trying to track down an adapter/base for the tilt valve and am not a mechanic so I am probably not describing whay I think I need very well.- Stickman 207

Re: 240 BD Industrial Tilt Valve

One thing about automotive, name one part and someone else will call it something different. The oil filter adaptor or possibly base is the part the bolt to the block, so that is the question to ask. It bolts on with 4 bolts.

Re: 240 BD Industrial Tilt Valve

I now know for sure that the oil filter base I have from my 1956 black diamond is the wrong one and that I need to obtain the correct one for what is probably a BG engine. So far, am having no luck.- Stickman 207

Re: 240 BD Industrial Tilt Valve

There were a few different filter bases. Take a look in MT-118 (in the Gangster International Library), Figure 12-62, and see if 223 960 R92 is the base you're looking for. If it is, here are some places to check:
