My BG241 came with a Carter E7T2 carb mounted to the manifold. It is a C1-BB one barrel carburetor used on 42-60 Dodge Truck & Marine engines.
Will this carb work with my engine?
If not, what is a better option?

Can't tell you whether it will work, or how well, but if Carbking is on, he could give you good answers to your questions. Early 240's had Carter YFs, I believe 736S. IH later went to the Holley 1904, and that's what most would have. And what the BG241 would have had originally. I had a Holley 1904 on my SD220, and switched it for a Carter 735S and think it was an improvement.

Heinz - the Carter BBR E7T2 was used on a number of Dodge trucks and Chrysler industrial engines from 1950~1960. The Carter type BBR was NOT one of Carter's better carburetors, and we never suggest using one on anything other than original (and then suggest replacing them with better carbs).

You mentioned you found another carb a 757s. This was a carb for a much SMALLER engine. I would not suggest it on your engine.

Here is a listing of I.H.C. applications and original carburetors that were used. Would suggest you attempt to find the original carb for your application. This way, you know it was engineered to work.

Thanks for the help Jon. What I got out of the table is that a 241 engine (regardless of BD or BG) takes a Holley 1904 - is that correct?

Heinz - yes, that is correct, however remember that Holley made hundreds of DIFFERENT type 1904 carburetors. Saying Holley 1904 is about as informative as saying I.H.C.! You should look for the part number(s) for the 241 which are also listed in the table. Just any 1904 MIGHT fit, but it probably won't work well.
