Gas Tank - '52 through...

I have a '52 L-112 that is missing the gas tank under the running board.
I found a 1956+ model (S Series?) with such a tank - it looks like it would fit, but does it?

Does anyone have measurements for their tank - or are the measurement available somewhere?
What years share the same tank (under the running board) as a '52 L-110.

Thank you very much for your help.
Heinz

If it has the same cab design and the tank is in the same place, it should fit just fine. As long as it is not a Larger truck. That fill for the tank should come up between the cab and the bed.

Re: Gas Tank - '52 through...

If you are not able to find an OEM fuel tank, it is possible to install a 1990 Chevy Van tank between the frame rails at the back. Some minor fabrication is required. You will need to install a custom made cross-member as shown in one of the pictures. This will keep the frame from twisting. I would install this cross-member even if I were not installing the Chevy tank. These frames are weak and often crack near the back.
I did install a HIDDEN HITCH like the one WEW has on his "L". This hitch addition gives the frame considerable strength and stability. These old frames like to "rack".
I have installed the Chevy Van tank in an R120 and in an L110. This modification works really well.

You should ask Lloyd if he might be willing to sell his fuel tanks. He had the left and the right tanks.

Re: Gas Tank - '52 through...

Thanks Nikki...

Found a yard here in town with lots of '60s-70's Internationals - turns out they have numerous '40s-'50s as well. They have two original tanks that should fit my '52 L-112. One tank looks aged (asking $30), but the other (asking $40) looks brand new on the outside (still has a new-looking gas cap on it). Both are driver-side tanks. Their condition is really unknown, so the plan is to get the newer-looking tank, have it checked, cleaned and lined. If the tank core is not workable - the yard will take it back...hard to beat that.

Will study your pictures on the extra cross member. Would not be right to let my new MIG welder sit idle - no? The plan was already to put a tow hitch on the back. Read a while back (somewhere on this site) that besides providing tow capability - it stiffens the frame in the back (like you said).

Thanks again,
Heinz
