So how much do you actually drive yours??

Hi International truck folks....

Just wondering how much you guys actually do drive your old International trucks ??? I remember back in the 1960's when my dad had one that he bought to build his house I grew up in...He drove it several times a week at least (winter time too)....he had a 1960's Mercedes diesel that he drove a couple days of the week too...but he relied on the old "Binder" quite a bit too...I have fond memories of trips to stock car races and trips to the dump and the lumber yards too...

Interesting query. Since my truck received a new speedometer when it was rebuilt, I can tell you that since January 20, 2014, I have put on about 4700 miles. While I do tool around some just to exercise it, I mostly take it to car shows now. This being Florida, I don’t need to worry about putting it away for the winter. There are some occasions where my truck will actually ride to an event if it is of two hours or more away from my home. Back in 1974, when I first got the truck from my grandfather, it was my secondary transportation getting to and from work. My wife needed our primary transporter to get to and from her work. Other folks will certainly be driving their truck at different frequency than I do, but I’m guessing you are looking for numerous responses to get an overall feel for the general usage going on. I am retired now, so I can drive it when I want to, not because I need to as before.

The fact of the matter is not much. I even have one on Tacoma chassis and it still can't get out of the way of 80 mph traffic. I hate being pushed everywhere I go. Everyone trying to pass. It's annoying.

I've got over 5000 in 3 years on a KBS 6 . Every couple of weeks or so now , home depot , the grocery store , out to eat , sometimes just out . Motor is rebuilt and balanced , just starting to spin really nice . Keeps up with traffic as much as trucks the same size to a point , when I get in the zone with it and think of just how good its running it dosen't really matter what the other traffic is doing . My being able to drive and shift properly made a difference also .

I used to drive mine daily, I Parked my semi a mile or so from the house and use it to commute. Now I park at my house ad weeks go by without driving anything other then my Semi. If I have to go to town, then I drive an Explorer. My K-7 sits for months at aa time now. If I get out of trucking then it might see more use.

I drive my 1956 S-120 about 300-400 miles a year. Mainly whenever I am working on a project at one of my rental houses and I need a truck. I'm in Texas and it doesn't have air conditioning so that is a major downside to driving it.

My "yours" was a 1953 R120. I drove it daily and on long trips for 20 years and 225,000 miles. The driveline was not stock.

In the last 7 years, I've put about 58,000 miles on the R-100. Only drive it in the summer, and take a 2 - 3 week road trip cross country every summer.
