Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

I'm having a hell of a time finding replacement wheel cylinders for the front of my S100. It has 1 1/8" bore, single piston WC's. All of the ones I've ordered in all have too wide of a bolt pattern on the backing plate and the hole in the BP is too small for the protruded part (that has the brake line and bleeder) to go through. Does anyone in IHC guru land have any ideas of another WC that may fit this? It's one of the last things to do to get me rolling my binder down the road....and I've been screwing with it for a month now trying to get the right parts.
Pics of what I'm working with vs the Raybestos WC36074 and 36075. I've spoken to Raybestos and they just tell me I'm outta luck. Thanks fellas :P
thanks

On an S100, it looks to me like the cylinder "should" be 1", with IH part numbers 87 896 R91 and 87 897 R91, which would cross to Raybestos WC 9697 and WC 9698.

I just looked at rockauto.com for your application---------according to their listings, if you chassis # is 24756 or below, it uses a 1-1/8" bore wheel cyl., and they currently have both left and right units in stock @ $ 21.79 each. If your chassis # is above 24756, it takes a cyl. with a 1" bore ( again, according to them ). They currently have only one of those in stock.
Don't know if that helps any.......... My experience with them is that, they will take the time to do things such as check the measurement you are questioning----might have to call you back the next day or something, but they do try to be accommodating.

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

From my
1957 Wagner Lockheed catalog

the S100 and S102 uses FD 18179 and FD 18180 for the front wheel cylinders, the repair kit is listed as FC 13641.
Front hose is FC 3700, rear hose is FC 4050.

These parts cross to WC34076 and WC34077 per Rock Auto.

FYI, the catalog shows a mater cylinder change after chassis 24757, but nothing about the wheel cylinder size.

Napaonline shows these to be good number, and fit the 56 S100. So that is encouraging.

Napa UP 36074=F18179=WC34076

Napa UP 36075=WC18180=F34077

Please let us know if this works for you and post a pict (of your truck) on the road.

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

It's not unusual for International to change components mid production,

Actually it was very common for them to do it,

Your cylinder cast numbers should tell you what you need,

Looks like they are available, I think I have rebuild kits for these

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

Thanks for the info.
I've been down the Rockauto path with little success. As well as local guys seem to run away as soon as I say "International".
The ones I have do measure 1 1/8".
They are a Wagner Lockheed cylinder the part numbers on them are:
LH FE-23498 & RH FE-23499

Where is the frame # on my chassis? I've only been able to find the door tag which doesn't have the frame #.
thx

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

I'll second the idea that parts don't always match the official spec. I've been rebuilding the brakes on my L110. It was supposed to have 1" front wheel cylinders but they turned out to be 1.125". They looked old, possibly original, but who knows? Anyhow, I cross-referenced the casting numbers to find out what they really were. I think the casting number is your best bet.

I'm assuming yours are beyond a hone and rebuild then?

I ended up rebuilding mine. The bores were good but everything else was junk, including the old aluminum (?) pistons, and you can't seem to get those separately. Instead I bought a common dual piston cylinder for about $6 and robbed it for parts, including pistons, seals, and cups to rebuild both front cylinders. Just had to come up with springs for them.

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

^^^^^^that is a great tip ^^^^^^^^ a lot of the components in brake cylinders are pretty much generic

I usually just buy a handful of rubber cups when rebuilding brakes if kits aren't available

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders 56 S100

I had the same problem on my 56 s100. I took my front wheel cyl. to a place called White Post Restorations in White Post Va. 540-837-1140 very cool place. They bored them out brass lined them and rebuild with a lifetime warranty. Cost a little but they will last and no more rust problem.
