S 1700 series info

I have an 1956 S1704. The brakes do not work due to leaking wheel cylinders. I need to find parts for this truck and I can not seem to find any info on this old truck. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Re: S 1700 series info

Can you find the chassis number on your vehicle? It should be on the right side of the frame rail, as you face the vehicle. It should be between the steering box and the front of that frame rail. I would have been hand stamped and could be covered by "build up" of years of grease and stuff, so be careful cleaning it off. Do NOT use a grinder and being hand stamped they will not be that deep in the metal. i will move your post to the correct area.
Here is a page with chassis numbers on them.
http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm ... 529/rec/15

It is also possible that your vehicle did not come from the US, as they were also produced in Canada. The chassis number would then only be a guide as the listings for Canada have been lost.
As many pictures of the areas you are working on and needing help with will also help. Keep in mind that the forum only allows 500Kib sized pictures. you can use the program 'paint" or one similar to reduce your pictures, save them in JPG. you may need to experiment a bit to see what works best for your pictures, suggest saving them in a separate folder for Forums.

Re: S 1700 series info

The numbers stamped on the frame are S1704 and 1235C , this coincides with the plate on the door. The plate says International Harvester Company of Canada, Hamilton, Ontario. The engine is a BD264.
I assume because it’s made in Canada I’m out of luck on the specific vehicle info then? I would like to know where to find manuals for this unit. All the stuff online is only related to the smaller trucks.

Re: S 1700 series info

The easiest way I have found is take the wheel cylinders off and match the part numbers on the units. I assumed they are stamped.
Also try these guys https://oldinternationaltrucks.com/kirkham-collection/ IN Canada.
Or I can give you part numbers off of a USA made manual, {not sure if they are the same} they list standard and increased capacity cylinders shoes etc.
