1951 pickup

Hi all I have a 1951 L110 with a Silver Diamond 220 and the only thing I can't seem to get right is the running temperature. The truck gauge shows it is all the way to the hot side I checked the temperature with a Lazer and the motor reads 210 and just above the thermostat it reads 180. I have flushed both the rain and motor and replaced the thermostat with a new 180. I haven't been able to find what the running temperature should be and I don't know if the gauge is ready hot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1951 pickup

couple of questions, Where is the needle on your gauge when the truck is off? Does it go to the "hot" indication when you turn on the key? Does it read a low temp when you first start and then go all the way over? Answer to those will better help to give you an idea of what to check.

Re: 1951 pickup

Might not be the correct sending unit for the gauge as well...no telling what someone stuck in it over the course of 65+ years.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

The needle goes down to the bottom and the warming up it goes to the top H end.

Re: 1951 pickup

these trucks can get a air bubble in the back of th head near the sender,

mine was reading hot like yours is doing after doing a head gasket replacement,

I parked facing up hill, and squeezed the upper rad hose to pump water around, got the trapped air bubble out, temp gauge read right from then on,

may not be your issue, but easy to eliminate from list
