Steering Column bearing (Numbers)

Has anyone been successful in getting or has a good modern part number for the upper steering column bearing in a 1950 L110?

The OE number is 88771HA and it's no longer a valid number and doesn't cross reference.

My only other option is to pull the bearing and measure it but removal may distort the bearing and give inaccurate dimensionals.

Not being a smartass but, I uses wheelbarrow wheel bearings in old columns.
A lot easier to source than old NOS IHC parts.

Your comment is not that far off....I actually did try that trick but my bearing was not the right size to fit over the steering shaft.

I would like to have a unit in hand so when I go through the trouble of pulling the old one It's just a quick swap job.

I may have one of those, the box is worn and cannot read the numbers. No stamp on the part. I looked in my manuals and the one I have looks like it. I will post a pic.

There is a part number that my local IHS dealer provided but it's no longer available.
88771HA

Can you provide some measurements of the part you have?

My bearing is 1.44" OD x .98" ID and 1/2" thick.

The steering shaft is 3/4" so there must have been a bushing or collar (which is missing) that filled the gap between the shaft and the ID of the original bearing.

Ok, first I noticed there are 3 different columns, tube jacket asm.
PN, 88771HA-137482R91 and 88431HX.

This I think is not the same as yours;
OD bottom tin 1-3/4 inch tin with flange
ID bottom 1-9/16 inch
ID top 1 inch
OD top 1-7/16 inch

tall is 1-1/32 inch

Re: Steering Column bearing (Numbers)

Gave up trying to replace the OE bearing.....Made a decision to reuse the original unit which was in very good condition. Gave it a good cleaning, added new grease and then fabricated 0.92" OD x 0.76" ID bushing from a 2.5" long piece of thickwalled aluminum tubing that was hiding in my spare fasteners drawer. No more sloppy steering system!

NEVER underestimate the value of a well supplied nuts/bolts/washers/odds&ends drawer and a little ingenuity.

Thanks for your comments and part numbers which did actually spur my decision to make do.
