Front Disk Brakes Off The Shelf

I was organizing my notes to start ordering parts for a disc brake upgrade to my R112 and ran across an off the shelf kit from TSM Manufacturing. Not sure what size trucks it covers, but looks like 1948 - 1973 IHC half tons.

If I remember right a couple of members were working with TSM early last year to put something together. If you guys are still with us have you tried this kit, and if so, how does it work?

They list that as a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt spacing. Isn't the bolt spacing 5 on 4 1/4? That would be center of stud to center of stud.

"Bolt circle" refers to the diameter of the circle formed by the lug bolts, so 5x4-1/2 would be correct. They were not very clear in the ad. It does look like a nice setup. I like the OEM type one- piece rotors

By this description, I now understand better,I always thought that "bolt circle" indicated the distance between the center of two studs but skipping the one in between them. At least that is what I understood.

I spoke to the guys at T S M today , they sound like they know what they're doing! Sounds like they have a good thing to offer. I believe they'd had input from some of our Boys. I'm going to order as soon as I save up my spare change. Sandusky

I just wish they didn't use GM parts :( Mine are being made to accept Ford calipers

I think that one of the reasons they used GM calipers is that the mounting system is about a simple as you can get. The mounting plate does not have to be so complicated. I am just glad someone is investing the time to help us out.

Actually mine is pretty simple as well just a plate to hold the Caliper bracketry (I grabbed the assembly from an old Explorer that I had here.)

Re: Front Disk Brakes Off The Shelf

I like it, I can live with solid axles, springs, etc. But having brakes that stop is a great thing to half.
