Re: 1955 S-140 Gas Tank

Upon further inspection this tank is in bad shape. :( The good news is I found a part number on the sending unit!!! Called the IHC dealer and they have one in the Navistar plant in Ohio. Turns out that the same sending unit was used on a bunch of IHC trucks and they have a bunch of NOS parts around the country. PN is 145638-R91 if anyone needs it. Now just need to track down a tank, worse case senario I guess I could fab a keg tank...........

I looked in the manual and I think the 140 has the underskirt 21 gallon. These ford tanks are close they are made in steel and poly or a universal tank will get you by.

Kevin, the top tank you listed is 41 x 12 x 12 So Dimensions are close, may have to modify or make new brackets

I agree, may go that way myself, I think the ford polys are cheaper on different sites.

Re: 1955 S-140 Gas Tank

When I had the tank out of my L-112, it measured about 45" x 9-1/2" x 9-1/2" inches...so your tank is about 4" taller [vertically] than the L-R-S 110/120/130 series trucks. I'd wager a tank from an L-R-S 150 or 160 might fit.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.
