What have you used to try pulling the axles? Hard to tell you what to do if we don't know what you've already done, without sounding like we're telling you "the obvious."

OK...so if you've removed the backing plates, have you also removed the axle retaining plate and seal?
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

I threaded onto the spindles with a large slide hammer trying to pull them out after removing the retaining plates. I guess my real question is what is holding them in? Where is the press fit? The bearings to the housing or the axle into the carrier? Thanks

I had a similar problem with one of my shafts. The bearing can be pretty tight, but there's nothing holding it at the carrier. My one side only took about 3 hits with the slide hammer and the other took a few dozen. A little heat on the tube probably wouldn't hurt.

Thank you so much! I'll give it another shot when I get home from work.

Re: 1952 L110 rear axle shaft removal

All you have to do is get three 3/8 all thread about 4" long with two nuts on each. Place the all thread with the nuts on each piece in the back side of the drum. Place the drum back on the truck( loose). Screw on the axle nut just enough to start it. Tighten the nuts on the all thread so that they all snug up. Now as you tighten the axle nut it will push against the drum and your axle seal and bearings will soon follow. Cheap and smooth.

I realize this is an old post, but I don't understand this process, tightening the axle nut won't push out the axle. What am I missing ?

Sounds to me like he's using the bolts as jackscrews to pull the axle.

Here is the parts book exploded view of the axle. I hope this helps with communication. Maybe the pictures will help with the take-a-part.
