Looking for Rear tail light mount

I am mounting what appears to be original or at least older tail lights and signals on my truck. They were in a box of odds and ends that came with the truck. What I am missing is a matching mounting bracket.
I can have a set of brackets made but I wanted to see if anyone may have one like this that they are not using and would like to part with.

Re: Looking for Rear tail light mount

The "arrow" signals were likely a GM accessory. BUT as far as trucks went in those days, IH and others used a lot of common parts ["Guide" was a GM brand that built lamps and parts for IH].

Those brackets you have look to be very close to original IH tail light brackets. Unfortunately, when I sold my '66 1100 parts truck, I let the brackets for the small lights that were on the bed go with the truck, instead of keeping them for the '51.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

Re: Looking for Rear tail light mount

The bracket looks original although I don't remember it having that large slot. Memory is getting shaky, so maybe it did, I don't recall for sure. However, way back in the '70's when I put a second brake light on the right side of my truck, I used a piece of flat bar that was about the same thickness and width as the original bracket and fabricated two new brackets, one for each side, so they would match. I cannot begin to tell you where the original bracket ended up. Wish I could help you out with it. About the biggest difference in what I fabricated and the original was the lack of the stiffening crease that is in the middle of the bracket. Those are stamped in the brackets with a bazillion ton press and I just couldn't find one of those with unscheduled time available. I suppose you could cut a notch across the bend and weld in a small piece of angle to create that stiffening crease. Or just trim a piece of angle and weld it in forgetting about the notch part. Or a triangle shaped piece of flat bar. Just a few thoughts.

Re: Looking for Rear tail light mount

Thanks Buzzman and Wew5.

I know I can make up some new brackets and may end up doing that. Since I am in no hurry, If someone happen to have one laying around it would save me some effort other than prepping it for paint. Yes that pressed in angle brace would be tough to duplicate. I would tack in an short angle stiffener.

Rich, you might want to check with the classified section of this website f you haven't already. I remember somebody who advertised they had bought a warehouse or similar and had a lot of NOS parts. I never got any response about an R-series hood ornament, but it couldn't hurt to check to see if they have a NOS twilight bracket. Never mind, I just checked and that warehouse ad isn't there anymore, still it wouldn't hurt to post an exterior parts wanted entry down this Board Index page. - Bob :t1809:

Re: Looking for Rear tail light mount

Mine had the slot cut in too, original does not, I made mine out of 090 aluminum without the slot, I think that was an easy way to replace the original taillight, if I had my truck here I could take a pic, Only the old timers would see the difference.

Not being a smart aleck here, just trace out on cardboard, transfer to similar gauge steel and cut them out.

Re: Looking for Rear tail light mount

smog, thats what I did with aluminum and bent it in a sheetmetal break.
A guy could weld, tig, a piece in the slot drill it with a hole saw if you want original. I dont think its a big deal but some guys do.
