I read in the service manual about adding oil to the distributor shaft (Remove oil plug). I did not see how much is to be added. What flavor of oil do you guys use and how much do you add. Service Manual indicates this should be done every 10,000 miles.

I filled my up most of the way. Be prepared for a quantity of it to ooze out. I think simply putting the plug back in pressurized the cavity. I don't recall what weight I put in it. Check the lubrication section of the service manual. It should say there.

From the manual. Put one drop of light oil on contact arm pivot pin. Remove rotor and put two or three drops of light engine oil on felt wick. Apply a light coat of vaseline to distributor cam and contact arm fiber rubbing block. Note: Lubricate dist shaft at overhaul or at 25,000 mile intervals. Use SAE-20 engine oil. Use sealing compound when replacing lubricant plug.

earlier ones had a grease cup where screw is, filled it with bearing grease, and give it a turn inward every once in a while.

we were tuning up my brothers L-160 school bus once and I loosened distributor to adjust timing while it was running,

distributor spun until wires stopped it and truck died from being way out of time. guess it needed to be lubed,

we had to dis-assemble it as it was glazed with old lube, once we cleaned and greased er back up & put it back together, everything was jake,

for the next 10,000 miles.

So that's how you get the wires all tight and snug and not hanging all over the place.
