R front fender speed nut dimesion

I left home without a sample. I need someone to measure the throat depth on speednut that attaches the grille to the fender or the cowl. Centerline of the bolt hole to the inside of the bend is what I'm concerned with.

I think this one will work, but I'd be bummed if I ordered them and had to wait another 2 weeks to mount the fenders if they don't fit.

Thanks in advance,
Jake

There are very detailed measurements on the link. A very old AMERICAN company called AU-VE-CO www.auveco.com They are most likely the supplier to M/C
I do not use these slip-on nuts because the rip the paint off anything they are put on and it had been my limited experience that this will become a rust point. For the very little extra time and money involved, we stitched to stainless nuts and bolts with fender washers . Check out PACIFIC FASTENERS. I hope this helps just a little.

Nikki- I hadn't considered welding nuts to the panels. I did weld nuts to the running board supports. It made installing them on the frame rails a much more enjoyable task.

I took a chance and ordered the speed nuts I linked to previously. If they don't fit I will follow your lead and tack on nuts instead.

Re: R front fender speed nut dimesion

I've not welded nuts to the fenders because I'm not a good enough welder. The nut packagers really "screw" us over. The prepackaged clip nuts come 2 short so two pack are needed. The Ford gets 5/16" stainless socket head button machine screws with fender washers and thin nylock nuts. The fender installation goes better with a helper.
The options and combinations are many. I bought metric fender washers and reamed each one to a. 001" fit. I'm a little OCD, and I'm okay with that.

Probably wouldn't want to weld the nut on the fender anyway. A little slop in the holes allows for minor movement for alignment and tweaking for proper gaps. Once a nut is welded on, it's a "done deal" so to speak - no movement.

Binder sheet metal is easy to set up correctly when compared to a Fat Fender Ford from the forties. A Binder can be done in a few hours, a '40 Ford can take two guys a day. One good bump and everything may change.
