Re: Front suspension kit?

The kit looks very much like what is sold by FATMAN FABRICATION and GARY HEIDT and more than a few others. I prefer the bolt in kits because I do not like to weld on the old Binder frames. There are a few exceptions, for me, but this is not one of them.

Re: Front suspension kit?

I very MUCH prefer a kit like this that hacking off the end of the frame and installing a GM frame "clip"...but ONLY because many frame clip jobs turn into hacked-up abortions.

Nice to see that someone is targeting a kit for Internationals. I know Fat Man Fabrications does, and I figure that Heidt's does...but for others, if it doesn't have a bowtie or an oval logo, it doesn't exist and never did, in their eyes.

Nope.

We put 'em on to make 'em handle worse...'cause we're masochists.

Sarcastic masochists.

Waaay better. And it will stop a whole lot better with the disc brakes.

I used a Fatman kit in my KB-1 and was pleased with that, too. Others have adapted a Crown Vic front suspension. It unbolts from the frame rails and when used in a swap there is no need to hack the longitudinal frame rails during the swap. There was a detailed how-to on the old site before the crash.

Re: Front suspension kit?

Buzz, I just meant is there a little difference or a huge difference in handling, and crown vic suspensions bolt on? no welding or anything of that nature?

Re: Front suspension kit?

I agree with B72 on the front clip thingee. I would not attempt a clip, ever. While a clip may seem like a short-cut to an independent front suspension, the chances of failure are too high. In my limited experience, beyond the chain-link fence, I have seen two good old Fords turned into great lumps that were almost incapable of being driven in a straight line. If you want something that goes down the road sideways, rescue a dog.

Re: Front suspension kit?

On the old site there was a build thread that used Jaguar front suspension. It was a fairly close fit. Brackets had to be fabricated and welded to the frame to bolt it to. So that's another option.
