Greetings,

I'm replacing the king knuckle pins on a 55' R110 that according to the CTS-11 manual has a F-160 axle. No where can I find out what the bore dimensions/specifications should be for the axle bore where the king pin fits through. The king pin diameter is described as 0.861 inches.

How do I tell if the bore on the axle is worn beyond specs and needs an oversized king knuckle pin?

I would say the need for an oversze kingpin is slim. I personally have never installed an oversize kingpin.
Take your current kingpins, hit them and clean them up with the wirewheel.
Take a piece of emory cloth on a socket extension and clean up the bores.
Mike the kingpins at several locations each and then install them in there respective axle bores.
Do they go in snug?
Should be NO wobbling.
Now look where the pins exit the bores top and bottom.
It should be easy to see out of round bores now.
I suspect everything is fine.
I assume the kingpins are loose in the spindles otherwise we wouldn't be on this subject.
Get a kingpin kit at NAPA or wherever and go.

Thanks and yes one side had notable movement...the other side I could not detect any movement.

...still seems odd there would be a specification somewhere for the bore...

You are replaceing the bushings aren't you? Are you talking about movement in the part of the knuckle were the pin is stationary? The only time I've seen a problem is when the bushing were worn thru and the pin wollowed out the bore and new bushing would not fix it.

If you go to Ebay , I'm sure you'll find a king pin set on there. It is 2 king pins and 4 bushings. There is a tapered bolt on the axle going from the front to the back and has a nut on the back side. When you get that out the King Pin will fall out. You take the new King Pins and Bushings and the part that the brake backing plate is attached to and take it to a machinist. They will press the new bushings into the backing plate mount and then hone them out to about .001 larger than the king Pins. You take it all home and put it back together and grease it and your in fat city.

I think that's strange, one kingpin is loose in its axle bore, but OK.
Your options are another front axle assy or an oversized kingpin set.
I honestly don't know which is easier to obtain there.
Here I have an extra R front axle.
Let us know what you decide to do.

Before disassembling the drivers side...I grabbed the spindle and moved it up and down and could see 'slop' or movement between the king pin and the brass bushings. When did this on the passenger side I could not detect any movement between the king pin and the brass bushings. So I removed the drivers side only and I've already secured a king pin set and it is ready to be reassembled. But, before I do this I kinda wanted to measure the bore of the axle to see if it had any excessive wear that I could measure. So far, I haven't been able to find any factory specs on what the bore diameter was originally so I don't have a reference to gauge if it is worn or not. I'm sure I can put it all back together with the new king pin parts I've secured and be fine as others have posted.

Are you talking about up and down slop? that is controlled with shims behind the trust bearing. The bushings should be a press fit in the knuckle. If the hole the bushing goes in is round, it is ok. If it is worn egg shaped then it needs to be re-bored. The bushings should be reamed after being pressed in.

I had no problem finding the pin diameter in the CTS-11,it's right there on pg. 2

All above kits are Standard, I did a lot of research and could never find any oversize kits.

The I beam & knuckles can be sleeved when excessively worn and return them to OEM specs,but it is not a DIY job.
