Distributor mount question

Under the distributor on the SD220 engine is a circular housing that fits into the block. The distributor shaft fits into the housing and bolts to it and the housing fits into the engine block. The housing was removed when my block was cleaned. I don't see what holds that piece in place other than possible friction from a slight press fit. The parts manual shows it as part of the block so there are no illustrations on how it is oriented or installed. Does anyone have any info or experience about this? I will get some pics of the piece by itself to help clarify my question. The part probably should not of been removed but is is off the block now. Just don't want to screw anything up on re-assembly.

yea, my parts book shows that sleeve as part of block assembly, with no part # for itself,

which is odd since it is a separate unit,

I guess it is pressed in while block is manufactured never to be removed again,,,,,,in theory.

Thanks Kevin. Would be nice if there were a set of alignment marks on the block and the sleeve.

Rich,
I was pondering this when I got back my engine back from the rebuilder last summer. They hadn't transfered over the collar you speak of from one block to the other. I came to the conclusion that it doesn't require precision alignment since the distributor is intented to be adjustable and will twist in the collar during normal operation. I'd rec. getting it close by looking at your pics and drive it home with a little bearing mount or locktite thread sealer and call it "a day".
