Looking at 1956 S-130 This Weekend

I'm looking to purchase an S-130 and am going to give it a once over this weekend. I need advice on looking for the little stuff that will nag me for years to come, what little things should I be looking at? I know to look for rust, make sure it runs, owner says it needs valve seals and brakes. It has a clean title and starts, that's about all I know. Sorry for rambling and thank you in advance

Look at the Wheels, if the Big 6 on 7 1/4 bolt spacing and the "snap ring rims" are you comfortable to change them yourself, or do you have a place that will? Can you do a compression check on the 6 cyl? Is it 6 volt pos ground, or has it been "converted" over to 12 volt or 12v from the Factory. Conversion, Do all the gauges work? Brakes, what does it need, shoes, drums, wheel cylinders? Go over to the L,R,S forum and check out the Parts link, I see back shoes listed, but not front, Last link in it might tell you where you need to look for front brakes. Glance through the whole thread for others with an L or and R 130 and see what they have come up with. Hopefully others will have time to give you more pointers.

Welcome to the group!

ANY of the 6 x 7.25 bolt pattern drums are hard to find.

I just took off two good front drums (ok, assumed good, haven't miked them) from a B-130.
Since R100 front drums fit on mine, i assume my big six wheels and drums will fit your S.

I learned the hard way you want to make sure the emergency brake parts are all there. Headlight trim rings are hard to find, lenses for turn signals in the front get cracked and crazed. Brake drums are an issue, many times can't be turned or found. Good luck, post some pictures when you can.

looks like a solid and mostly complete project. line ticket listed a 8' 6" flatbed from factory, be interesting to see an original from IHC flatbed.

If your happy with the price and willing to look long and hard if you need drums, Then it looks like a nice truck.

I have to say that this truck looks so much nicer than most I bring home.
