Re: Rear end drive shaft help for L110

if your drive-shaft is currently connected to rear axle, then you can do anything you want going forward, just put the existing rear yoke from your drive-shaft to new shaft with whatever trans connection, or have trans connection end installed on your old drive-shaft,

any drive-shaft outfitter can do this for you, may need to buy a new tube, or step adapter,

decide if you are going to swap out your rear end for newer one before that, or you will be doing drive-shaft mod again.

if you are missing your drive-shaft then you need to find a used one, there were several different yoke types used, depending on application, needs to match axle.

if you do go to a newer rear-end try to get the drive-shaft with it, save you some money modifying instead of building a new one from nothing, Yokes are expensive at the drive-shaft shop.

Changing yokes can be expensive. If your shaft is the length you need it to be then look into getting A combination joint.

On my '52 L-112, it has a trunnion-style U-joint. They're quite different from "modern" U-joints, and getting harder to find every day.

That MAY be what Markedwin is referring to.

IHC and some others used the "toothed" Mechanics joint a LOT. The Ball and Trunnion is also known as a Detroit joint? Anyway, here are pictures:
The Ball and Trunnion Detroit type is a VERY common Mopar joint.

Two U joint types couldn't be more different except maybe Rzeppa joints? LOL!

Re: Rear end drive shaft help for L110

I have a list for U-joints which I started with IH pn's from the MT-97. So there's no conjecture with this info.

R-110 rear joint
110860R91 IH Mechanics 2LCR/2C w/ LWT= low threaded wing
508 Precision

Link for Precision #

I have some other mfr. pn's but Precision seems to be the easiest to find. Most auto supply stores that carry Federal-Mogul can get them for you, like (sigh) NAPA.

FWIW,the term for the block end is "Wing" which can be either threaded or counter-bored.

The CB version of the same 2C joint pn is;
110861R91 IH LWD=low wing drilled
522 Precision

That joint is used on the front in some applications, which is why I emphasize using the IH book first.
Threaded wings are used when the yoke/flange is drilled and drilled (CB) wings for threaded yokes/flanges.

Any competent drive shaft shop can probably get a new weld yoke if needed, they're still listed by GKN-Rockford (Mechanics).

Anyone know if they make a updated yoke for the rearend?
