Split Manifold?

Did or does anyone make a Split Exhaust Manifold for the SD220 Engine? I've never heard of one but then there's a lot of things I've never heard of. Thanks in advance.

Fenton may have made some, but I have never seen or heard of one.

If you lived in Australia, you could maybe snag one of these out of an ACCO mk5. I would take the whole engine, as it's a 283 with an SAE pattern bellhousing. Found these pics on BP some years ago.

There's your a/c compressor mount too! Looks interesting.

Re: Split Manifold?

220,240 & 264 are completely different than their larger brothers so those manifolds would not fit.

Re: Split Manifold?

That is an Australian made 283 cubic inch engine, copied from the US tilt valve 264. The base engine came in 3 sizes, 281, 282 and 283 cubic inch, i know there is a difference in the heads valve design between the 281 and 282 engines, and the obvious external difference is the 281 had a one peice exhaust manifold whereas the 282 had the same as the 283 pictured, the 282 had a single carb compared to the 283 having 2 carbs.

I bet the manifolds would work, at least on a tilt valve.

If nothing else, that is a cool looking motor, I like the large CU.INs

Re: Split Manifold?

That's cool! I never seen a pic of one of those. Does anyone know the bore and stroke of a 281/282/283? If the bore is the same as a 264, then the cylinder spacing may also be the same. That would probably be the key dimension as to whether the manifold would bolt up.

Fascinating! Wonder how rare the bell housing and starter are?

:bashhead:
The 220,240/241 & 264/265 ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the 269,282,308!!!!
I have serious doubts the Aussie engine was based off a smaller engine. Show me the proof, like a parts manual.
The 269,282 & 308 evolved from the FAC engines,the 269 well before the SD's & BD's even existed.
