Offenhauser 5588

Anyone ever seen one of these? I picked it up off eBay a couple years ago and I've slowly been gathering carbs for it. Glass bowl Holleys to be exact. :t0201: Wasn't positive about it being for an IH until I got the BD240 back from the machine shop and did a test fit. If it isn't for an IH Black Diamond, then there must be another engine out there with the exact same intake setup.

Now that most of my other problems have been diagnosed/fixed, I'm getting closer to mounting this bad boy and I'm curious if anyone happened to have any pics that have a good view of the throttle linkage and choke setup.

Never seen one of those!
Here's a picture of two old-time Edmunds manifolds. One for Dodge flathead and one for Chevy inline-6.

Not sure, but I believe those are for the larger 269 and up series found in medium and heavy trucks. Believe it won't work on light line trucks. CB89 would know...

Re: Offenhauser 5588

I've seen the intakes for the bigger sixes on eBay, Nicson made them if I recall correctly. In all my years of looking, this is the only one of these I've ever come across.

I believe this Offy is for the smaller IH six. Port spacing is the same, mounting flanges are the same and the center part where it bolts to the exhaust manifold is the same.

The only difference I can tell is it takes the wider base 1904s, but fortunately I have several to mix and match parts off of to get the linkages I need. Already have a set with matched choke and throttle bores.

That's one unique piece there. Can't wait to see/hear the engine that it goes on.

Re: Offenhauser 5588

I can't wait to hear it either. Haven't decided if I'm going to make a set of headers for it, or find another manifold and have it split. It'll probably be easier to have a manifold split, but either way I'm gonna run dual Porter steel packs. Once I start the actual build, I'll be sure to chronicle it.
