Rewiring the round about way

For only going to rewire this S102 truck and use it for my daily driver it sure is taking a long time. Can't figure out why. Oh Yea, I'm going to clean the frame, put on rust preventative and repaint it.

Hello KServer, Did you ever change your rear differential? The reason I ask is for Hi way speeds, brakes, etc. And is the transmission up to the task? I am more of a 4 speed guy, they do hold up to more abuse. But looking to an OD, time will tell. I dont remember what your ratio is now.
Looks great so far, took me six years to get the old "S" series on the road in 1996, but never done, always trying to improve.

Hi Kevin,
I haven't changed the rear end yet but am planning to go with one from a ford explorer for the rear end ratio and the disk brakes. Already have the brakes changed in the front. I forget what the ratio is right now on the stock rear end but if I remember right it's 4.something, been a while since I looked at it.

I did get the engine out, parking brake cables unbolted and the exhaust taken off not much left to take off. Next is to wait for warmer weather so I can pressure wash the frame. I did notice however that the new polyurethane front motor mount was broken again, looks as though it smashed in two pieces from the weight of the engine. I will be looking into some other kind of front motor mount, already gone through two new polyurethane front motor mounts and the engine hasn't even been started yet.

Any link to where you got the front disc brakes? I'm looking to change mine this Summer, along with a dual MC.

Woah... That's one way to rewire the truck. Hahaha. You know there's only about 4 wires that run on the frame rail right?

Seriously though, looks like a good solid project. I'm sure cleaning/painting the frame will pay dividends later on. I'm using PoR-15. What's your paint of choice?

Jake, Seems there would be at least 5 wires or (6 with back up light) running along the frame to the rear of the truck. See my illustration. When using the brake bulb as a turn signal...then I assume there is a left and right brake power wire going through the turn signal switch. Am I correct?

Generally, when wiring in tail lights with double-contact bulbs AND turn signals, one side of the bulb is park/tail, and the other side is turn/brake. License light can "tee" off the park/tail circuit. Most turn signal switches have a provision for running the brake light circuit through the turn signal switch.

So coming down the frame, you have one wire for park/tail/license lamps; one for left turn/brake; and one for right turn/brake. If you have backup light[s], that would be a 4th wire...not six.
