Speedometer Gear Help!!

Almost complete on restoration on a 1954 R-100. This site has been such a wealth of knowledge to get me to this point. Thanks to all. I have ran into a road block now. The truck has a Borg Warner factory installed overdrive and the speedo is not working. Disconnected speedo from overdrive and found driven gear ( the one on the cable) chewed up. No lube for years and froze up and ate gear. The gear has 15 teeth on it that I can count. It seems to be right hand gears all so. Where do I start to find a replacement?

Re: Speedometer Gear Help!!

I was in the same boat with the speedometer from my L-110. I took it in to Nevada Speedometer and they guy there told me that they weren't meant to be opened or fixed. And then he fixed it for me. :-) They are great people, and I'm sure you could send it to them. Their number: (775) 358-7422

I get to Reno every couple of weeks if there anything I can help with - good luck!

Re: Speedometer Gear Help!!

Thanks for the info. I have noticed that in many Ford antique truck books that they have replacements available for this purpose. Usually a $12-$15 fix. Not found one that would work for my IH though. I'll give your suggestion a try.

I've got a 56 S-120. The speedometer doesn't work but the odometer does. I'm thinking the cable controls both, so I'm thinking the cable is ok. Any suggestions? I know they carry the cable at NAPA.

Re: Speedometer Gear Help!!

The guy I posted makes different lengths, if it your cable, awood sounds like he needs the gear drive too. Napa will be more perhaps than 19 bucks, I got lucky and took the gear drive apart and lubed it up years ago, works fine, depending on what rear gear you have the scout ones worked for me when I changed rear gear. hope this helps

Will second Scottso's comment, especially for those of us who are visually oriented.
