Engine pull

ok so what do you guys suggest just pulling the engine out or pulling both the engine and transmission out together at the same time?

Re: Engine pull

We had such a bear of a time pulling the engine and trasmission that we made a drop cross member so in the future we wouldn't have to raise the cab .

Re: Engine pull

I pulled the engine and transmission together on my L122 by unbolting the front cab mounts and raising the cab about an inch. (Steering column needs to be loose or removed to raise the cab). MM

Re: Engine pull

the trannie is so EZ to pull from the bell, that it really makes the engine removal EZ.

driveline off, speedo cable off, E brake off, if you have it on trans, 4 bolts, out it comes,

you would be doing all of above to remove it with motor except the 4 bolts, so really only diff, is 4 bolts.

Re: Engine pull

Thanks guys think i'll do it one at a time, the transmission has actually been rebuilt about 12+ years ago and shifts like a dream so I figure i'll save it for another project, same for anything else I pull off, restore it, repaint it, save it for a rainy day

Re: Engine pull

You will be tight on space with the cab in place. Since I was taking my truck apart to get at the frame I moved my cab out of the way before removing the engine. You will need to remove the linkages to your tranny and the speedometer cable as mentioned. I can't remember if you have the 3 spd or the 4 spd tranny. Mine is a 3spd column shift. Try to support the tranny until the bolts are loose to slide it out of the clutch bearing and bell housing. It was easy when working from above. Depending on what all you intend to do while the engine is out...you may want to remove one fender and inner fender to get at things better. That's up to you.

Re: Engine pull

Got to say it's easier to remove the cab than one thinks. I didn't plan on going this far with this build but I wanted to clean and repaint the frame. Took me one afternoon by myself to remove the body from this frame. And you may find some other things you may need replace or repair like I did such as bad brake lines or a wrong rear engine mount. Now I'm going to pull the motor when it warms up enough to power wash the frame and engine.
