wheel trim rings on IH truck???

Just took delivery of the 56 S-100 pickup I'm going to be using for the electrall generator reproduction. It has the original triple diamond hubcaps (in rough shape) and old chrome trim ring on all four wheels and the spare. Back in my youth, we called these trim rings "beauty rings". I am assuming a pervious owner installed these rings, or did they come installed from the factory???

I don't know if they're from the factory but were putting them on our r100.ive been looking at them from places like Coker,I'd like to see a little of the wheel color show next to the tire as in some of there pictures.I think we're going to install there wide whitewall pie crust bias looking radials also.

Re: wheel trim rings on IH truck???

if changing from bias-ply (original) to bias looking radials, remember the adjustment needed to the suspension. I learned about that on the first long trip after the new tires were put on, the restoration folks "forgot" to do that adjustment and the truck "shimmied" a bit at cruising speed. When they made the appropriate adjustment, the steering became as solid as it was originally. Drives the way it should now. I don't think I was in danger, but it caused me a bit of worry during the trip.

Im gonna put some on my L-112 I would think they might have been an option for S-series being it was the mid-late 50s and chrome was all the rage

I have never heard of a suspension adjustment needed when running radials. what is involved with that and what type of adjustment?

Re: wheel trim rings on IH truck???

I misspoke on that, when I looked up the invoice yesterday they listed they adjusted the steering box and drag link, the truck wheel would shake a bit and when I reported that to the restorer he said, "oh we forget to adjust it for the radials". They did the adjustment and now the truck steers as solid as it did before restoration. Anyway, I got the impression that the wheel type made a difference in the handling at cruising speed - i.e. in this case, 40-50 MPH :t1812:
